Hand Saw TPI vs PPI

TPI = Teeth per Inch
PPI = Points per Inch

PPI = TPI + 1

My hook for remembering the above formula, I figure its logical to assume that you will get a higher count of points over an inch relative to whole teeth per inch (works for me).

The Sketches above show how PPI & TPI are counted. The top Sketch shows PPI being counted, for a total of 5 points per inch (PPI). The bottom Sketch shows TPI being counted, for a total of 4 teeth per inch (TPI). The same hand saw blade and teeth pattern is used for both Sketches shown above.
